LED's for planted tanks
Has anyone experimented with LED's or actually uses them still for planted tanks. I know they were supposed to be the next rage but were expensive. They are coming down in price now so I would be curious to know any updated info. Thanks

I'm running LEDs on my fluval edge, its rated for 6500k but the reaction from my plants arent as spectacular as my plants under a CFL. They can be expensive but if you DIY, it can be fairly cheap, My MR11's cost 25 bucks for 2 bulbs, but they are expected to last for much longer than halogen and will keep their spectrum for longer than CFLs.
My tank came with LEDs
I have Top-Fin 37 gl tank that came as a kit. Has full set across hood of very bright LED lights. I had never used those before. But due to ammonia problems I resorted to adding a second filter (internal) and my first ever live plants. It has been a month or so now and everything is doing great, and multiplying. I have no idea what the "spectrum" of the lights are and was curious myself. All I know is I put the plants in the gravel per directions on the plant packaging, have not tried fertilizers or anything, and they are thriving.
I have a 48" current LED bar and I am killing it! All of my plants love the led, flouresents are a thing of the past. Yes there is alot of crap LED's by all the brands you expect crap from. All of you out there dogging the whole idea because you tried the bottom shelf LED's, my counter point is they make top of the line TV's with only LED's now for a reason. That reason is they hit more of the light spectrum than anything else, they use less electricty, and they are low profile.
