I have about 15 Val plants coming in today. Should I trim them down, like to about 4 - 6 inches, before planting them to stimulate new growth or just plant them the length they are (about 12 - 18 inches)? Which will give me better growth from the start?

plant them as-is.

If you trim them, they'll likely die. (damaged leaves will rot down to the root and usually won't regrow. In a large cluster, it's not very noticeable since they grow so fast, but I definately wouldn't do it with your first few plants.)

Agree. Also, be aware that the existing leaves may yellow and die, often plants do this because of the change in environment (water, light, whatever). So don't let that worry you. As long as new growth occurs they will be fine.
