JAva fern planting

are rubber bands toxic to tank? I tied down a java fern with a normal rubber band a week ago and thought It would have attached by now but it hasn't. My LFS only hada little tiny bit left of the fern so I got a discount at least but it was so small (3 leaves) that I tore off two of the leaves trying to tie it down. I dont have any fertilizer or anything for plants what are the best bang for your buck for that?

Rubber band should be safe. Many LFS sell bunch plants held together with bubber bands. It takes a few weeks for the roots to take. I'm assuming you attached the fern to some wood. Seachem flourish is a good fertilizer to start with.

The LFS sells these flexable achors that work well. I cut the strips to use on other plants. It has weight to it so the plants will not float up or if a fish messes with the plant it stays put on the bottom. They look like flexable light weight metal but is'nt.

Java fern grows quite slowly. I'd just give it time. I tried flourish on my tank and all I got was a huge black beard algae bloom. Unless you have other faster growing plants in the tank it won't get used up fast enough and will just contribute to algae. Some flourish excel (alternate carbon source) shouldn't do any harm and may help though.

liveaquaria.com is a good place to get plants online and is where I got mine

Hope this helps ;)
