Do i trim the top of the plant its kinda like floating at the top one leaf, and i was wondering i sumberged the plant a little but i put the roots out and stuff, and do i have to let the light go directly on the plant because my lights are 20 leds that are kinda in the middle of the tank.
I am not sure about cutting the tops of the leave but can say they are low light plants so where you have it in the tank in comparison to the light should be fine. Also I can't really tell from the pics you need to make sure the rhizome is above the gravel or it could rot. You may have it this way already.
Looks to have some brown spots on the leaves. Are those algae? With the right lights and fertilizer it will grow new leaves but this is a slow grower. It will take some time to grow new leaves and start looking bushy.
This plant assimilates nutrients from the water via the leaves and the roots; black areas on the leaves is a sign of nitrogen deficiency (ammonium and nitrate). Areas of transparency in the leaves means the plant is receiving too much light. This plant does very well under subdued and diffused light, such as a canopy of floating plants. The plant grows slowly, and older leaves that become tattered and blackened may be removed.Read more:*Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus) Profile
You can trim the whole leaf as suggested and it be OK for the plant but not sure I would do that unless it starts looking really bad. Yes if you cut the leaf it will take a long time for it to grow a new one that tall.
I don't have one but you can use Google to search for an image of one. Just type in rhizome Java fern and you will get some pics of it.
The leaves come out the top of the rhizome (long brown stick looking thing. LoL) and the roots come out the bottom of it if that helps. If you take it out and look close you should be ableto tell.
hey im not sure if someone said anything about the brown spots an stuff on the back side of the leafs. this is actually a new plant starting. the fern puts out these long hairy like fingers an they will eventually attach to whatevers around it and start growing.
