If having problems with algae -

please look to this outstanding article at this link. And hopefully I am not in violation of this forum's rules in posting this link...

http://www.floridadriftwood.com/plan...anted_aqua.htm

Basically this article stresses that higher order plants easily out compete algae for base level phosphates. And one is advised to dot disrupt the substrate in well planted aquarium and introduce phosphates to the water column. Nor should one introduce phosphates in any too great of an amount into their aquarium if you do not desire mass algae blooms. There is more of course - please read and decide for yourself. Comments always welcome!

Also for those that desire a great planted aquarium or are interested in aqua-scapes check out the aquatic gardening association web page.

Enjoy and please take a gander!

Not a bad link. When I have algae problems, it is usually caused by something I did or am doing wrong. Many times the fix is to ease up on feeding or have the lights on less. I also use certain plants to help control algae, one being elodea. Elodea just flat outcompetes the algae for nutrients. A good floating plant with many uses.
