I have a piece of lava rock….
….I'd like to tie some java fern to and add it to my 75g. Question is, the rock has been sitting in a tank I recently dis-assembled, in water just enough to cover the gravel, is the rock ok to put in an established tank as is or do I need to clean it up a bit?.
I would just rinse it under the hot water tap to remove dust and dirt. Or you can do this in a pail of water. Clean off any algae, a brush like an old manual toothbrush works for this.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
