Hygroryza aristata/Asian Water Grass

I've got a bunch of this floating in my 29 gallon, but i was wondering- how do i divide off new growth?? its getting really big and long, and i'm thinking of taking some of it out so light reaches my bottom growing plants. Does anyone know a way to do this?
