Vinyl window screening would work fine.... just don't let anyone catch you cutting a strip out of their windows though... not cool to get caught.

I used a length of some sort of poly tube. It floats, is rigid so tries to hold it's bend as it tends to push out against the front and rear of the tank without needing any support, rides the water level and doesn't bother the fish going to air. Once I cut the excess 6" off it is completely unnoticable in the water unless you look up for it.
