How to care for banana plant

I have just one little banana plant, a nymphoides aquatica I believe. It sits in my little tank, no more than a gallon I'd say, with my one beta. I think it's dying. It's getting brown on the edge of its roots and slightly on the leaves, and has brown dots all over the stems which were not there when I got it. How do I care for this little guy? If it's not worth keeping it I'd rather take it out asap so it does not affect my fish.
Thanks!!

Do other plants do well in your tank? It could be a lighting issue. There should be about 1 watt of light per gallon. If your lighting is good, it could be that you are planting the "bananas" under the substrate. These are in fact nutrient reserves, and need to be above the substrate.

It's not the best way out but... try it! Natural light is good for your plants and fish... but.. you could have an algae outbrake + if you tank is by the window make sure you do not get huge temperature swings.

Banana plants need plenty of light so it can't hurt. Watch the algae issues for sure, it can take over quickly in direct sunlight.

Also, your banana will want to put out a lot of roots to support it. If oyu have plenty of substrate make sure to give it a root tab so it has access to extra nutrients.

banana plants are very simple and very undemanding. I have one in my 10 gallon tank and it did fine... but then when i added ferts and a DIY yeast C02 injection, it exploded!!! it grew a new leaf that was 10 times bigger than the others! Heres some pics of before and after. In just 1 week!

this is before:

and this is after (one week after ferts and c02 is added)

notice how freakishly huge the other leaf is compared to the others 0_0
