I once got in an argument with a local fish store about Dwarf puffers needing to be in brackish water and that all puffers need to be in brackish water or saltwater. When in fact this is not true and dwarf puffers need to be in freshwater but they didn't want to listen. So even your small stores can be problematic.

Just a comment on the loach, can you return it to the store? Explain to them that it gets 6 inches and must have a group (loach are highly social fish) and you have no space for this. They should credit you.

A sole loach in a 20g tank is not going to a happy fish. I have groups of 4 different loach in two of may tanks, and their constant interaction and playing/chasing/circling/nudging is a delight to watch--but it takes more than one loach to do this.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If youíre going to take it under your wing then youíre responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

There is not sufficient space in a 20g for any species of common loach; and they all must be in a group. What are the catfish?

That will be better, but it will still be lonely unless she can get at least 2 more.

As for the corys, fine; they are shoaling fish needing to be in a group too, so with 2 I would get 1 or 2 more. This willnot cause trouble in your 20g.
