Help. I need to buy a light for my 250 gal.

I have a 250gal Arcrylic salt water tank, that i plan to use for fresh water fish. Large Pacu. Anyway the tank has a canopy 1 foot deep and tank is 30inches deep, 5 foot wide.
Should i attatch a light to the roof of the canopy which is a foot away from the tank or should I get one that stands on top of the aquarium on legs?
Which would be the best type of light for this set up?

Please help!

Well, since you've got a pacu you aren't likely to be very successful in keeping a planted aquarium, so if I were in your position I would just try to go as low-budget as possible. I would get some four foot shop lights from Home Depot and mount them to the inside of the canopy.
