mainly i'm worried about how much it'll cost! i'm already going broke just buying fish and gravel. i would like a hood though - they look so much neater.
That is a standard 15/20 gallon, just make sure if you get a hood that it is the 24 inch length as a 20g comes in the long and the tall forms that are different.

An incandescent hood is much less expensive than fluorescent, and for this size tank like my 20g I prefer incandescent now that we have such fine CF bulbs that are also much cheaper to buy and operate (energy) than the others. Save up those pennies. I just bought a hood for my 20g, after debating about a plain glass top and some sort of light fixture, but it was not much of a price difference in the end and now I have a nice looking and functional cover.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

why do you think my java fern never went transparent in the old tank? it was getting less light if anything because it was crowded in with heaps of elodea.
