Well I have spent the better part of this morning trying to find fine gravel. No one in my area seems to carry a pea gravel smaller than 1/4" and calling the lfs the cheapest I found will cost me minimum $50. So it looks like I will be doing sand and like it. I just can't see paying that much for some tiny gravel.

At first I started looking at doing a biotope, but as I have been looking, reading and researching I too like the Theme idea better too.

I have to say, I've tried the Sand bottom and love it. It's a little more work at first but i think it's worth it. You should check out my thread ( Verdant Grottos Freshwater habitat ) on how I prepared the sand. Maybe you could improve on the technique as well
