They may turn out to be the same species, and simply two different subtypes... If you have the 5" version, that should work.
Contradens get to be about 5-6", L201 max out at about 5". I'm not sure where you heard that Contradens reach 12-13 inches, but that is not correct. I researched these fish pretty extensively before buying them.

Ah, maybe I got cm and inches mixed up... Thats probably what happened, since 13 cm = about 5 inches...

I have not had the U2 but was considering it for a new setup for myself. The reviews that I have found seem to indicate that the filter clogs quickly and requires weekly maintenance or it will produce too little flow to be effective.

I have a Fluval u2 in a planted 20 gallon long. I have no complaints about it at all, except that the filter does in fact clog quickly. I clean it out about once every other week.
