I know this seems like an odd question, but how can I make more algae and diatoms grow in my fish tank? The first fish I ever had in my tank are otos. I love them! anyway, I have never seen even a spot of algea since I started this tank. It would be really nice if they had some algea to eat instead of just soggy veggies, ya know? I curently have a little container floating right under the light with a rock in it. Theres some BRIGHT green stuff growing on it, but it's taken like weeks to cover this little rock that will be clean within a day probably. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Put it down with more than enough veggies to fill them up for a day (or however you feed them) and see which gets eaten first. It would be a shame to go through all that hassle to grow something that they don't like as much as something that is really easy to give them.
Hahaha...it'll take a day to eat...that's funny. So, I put the rockin there, then ran downstairs for a quick meal. When I came back, there was not a speck of green on that rock. That means they ate it in about 15 minutes(or less)!!! So, now I KNOW they like it, but at this rapid consumption rate is it even possible to grow algae in there? Grr. This tank has ALL algae eating species in it: mollies, otos, and shrimp. On the other hand, my tiny tank with a dp is covered in algae that I can't battle cause i can't fit an algae eater! perhaps i'll throw rock from that one into the main on occasion.
Guess your down to algae tabs uses you can grow it elsewhere and keep transferring it.
Jeff.
