Diamond Tetra eating Wisteria

So, my Diamond Tetra are eating my Wisteria

Is this a sign they are not getting fed enough? I was doing twice a day, but cut back to once a day when I saw ammonia and nitrite (this is in my new 125 gallon).

Ammonia and Nitrite are gone now, but I've noticed that my Wisteria is ragged and have seen the Diamond Tetra nibble at it.

I can only offer general comments on this. First one is that many forest fish will now and then nibble soft plants naturally; vegetation is frequently a part of the natural diet. I have found that characins in my tanks that have some duckweed love to nibble this; it is probably quite tasty, if you like veggies. I don't think I've ever seen fish go after swords, Anubias, Java Fern, crypts.

I've never fed more than once a day, and often miss one day a week at that. I had this species back in the 1990's and don't remember any issues with plants, but aside from floating plants I didn't have fine or soft-leaf varieties.

The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. [unknown source]

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
