Cutting/Clipping Water Sprite-How?

Hey guys and gals!

I got a hold of some water sprite from my LFS and it's doing great! It's growing so quickly, I love it. Anyway, in the store the sprite was planted and I have it floating in my tank. It has begun to sprout downward roots all over the place and I would like to take some cuttings of it and plant it in the substrate. I am just not sure how to or where to cut or anything like that. (I can link a picture later if needed)

Any and all help is welcomed!

Are we talking about floating plants or planted plants? If they're floating, wait until the roots on a leaf are long enough that you consider they can be successfully planted (you don't need huge root structure) and plant the roots and the whole leaf without cutting it.

I would like to keep some floating (as it already is) and plant some in the substrate so I have both floating AND substrate planted. What I was wondering is how I separate the floating plant into a cutting to plant it. Ie. where would I cut it or start it from?

If planting in substrate, you want to cut below a node (fat part of stem).
If just trimming planted ,then you cut above the node .
Node is prolly not correct name ,but is what I call it:oops:

I could use a picture just to confirm where I'm going here.

Since the Water Sprite was planted in the store, it should be easy to re-plant it where the fronds (stalks) converge at the bottom of the plant.

I have floated leaves, cut parallel to the stalk, and they grew roots from the leaf stem, but it takes time, and you should wait until there is a good growth of roots from the leaf. Where roots have grown as you said, they should be growing from the stems of leaves. In this case, you can cut the stem of that leaf without cutting the roots, or cut a section of the stalk with the roots on it, and plant it.

Thanks for the help - you've been very clear since the beginning.

Are you sure the plant you have is Water Sprite? Click the shaded name for the profile with photos. There was another similar thread recently, and I suggested there that Wisteria might be the plant. It is in the profiles too. And it mentions how to propogate.
