Just an update. Plants are in the tank. Thank you SweetAquatics! Everything arrived in excellent shape. I have added 10 neon and 10 glowlight tetras. There are also 3 octo kittys. The octos have striped the dwarf sag leaves but other than that, the tank looks great. I left all 6 bulbs in but only run two at a time. I run them in all combinations and it seems to be working out well. I also like the difference it makes in the appearance of the tank.

Just wanted to thank everybody who has been so helpful.

My recommendation would be to reduce the amount of bulbs, i cannot comment for the amount needed without a picture. Just be aware if you do reduce to let's say 2 bulbs, you do have to keep in mind the ballast(s) for the bulbs are to be reduced also. Just for power consumption, disconnect or remove the obsolete ballasts.

karjean,

I am using a homebuilt hood that has six sockets for CF bulbs. They provide way too much light when all 6 are engaged. I run two to three at a time but change which ones are on. It does provide a different look with each combination. I am hoping algae will be kept at bay too as the light placement and intensity is different every day. Plants seem to like it as do the fish.
