live plants are the best filtration you can get,, the more the merrier, and no co2 is not something you would have to have,, just a option,, their is high tech setups, and low tech set ups(which most use) in a low tech,, all you would reall need is the appropraite light for the plants you gonna be using,, some good ferts.. most recomend flourish comprehensive, and flourish root tabs( if you have root feeding plants).. in a hight tech setup, you "may" get better results, but there is more to go wrong, and more involved(more imput from you) and $$$ but you can look around the forum here and see some ppl here are getting amazing results, and great looking tanks with a low tech set up..

I concur. Unless you specifically intend having plant tanks with flowering plants and propagating plants, a low-tech or natural setup will work. Plants will still be healthy, just slower growth. All my tanks are natural, photos are under "Aquariums" below my name on the left as examples of what is achievable.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business.
