CHELATED IRON

I have a little bottle of CHELATED IRON for my plants and they are doing just fine but I just wanted to know if someone knows how often CHELATED IRON can be added to your tank with out harming fish.

Iron can be dosed at up to 1+ppm weekly. The amount depends on how the tank is set up. High light and CO2, more iron needed, low light and no CO2 less iron. I personally dose .33ppm Iron from CSM+B 3 times a week. According to the plant experts, an excess of iron, as long as it is well below toxic levels for the fish, does not cause algae as long as you have a balance of nutrients and no deficiencies.

My tanks are 10 gallon tanks, heavily planted with approximately 3 w/g and no CO2. When I dose iron and do not dose my other nutrients for more than 1 week I get a real bad outbreak of hair and string algae.

I will see what I can find to determine what solution to make and what amount to dose to get a specific ppm in your tank.

I found this for a heavy planted, CO2 injected tank and 10% Iron Chelate.

5 grams, 1000ml water, dose 15mls 3x a week

If it isn't heavily planted and/or doesn't have CO2 injection then I would half it and you should have plenty.
