I do that all of the time. Just be careful not to damage the roots any more than necessary. Expect some "die back".

When I bought a crypt for my 10 gallon it came in a pot with the wool. When I took it out it naturally "divided" itself so I planted both sections. It's been doing great and sprouting new growth. So I got 2 plants for the price of one! :D

150 Gallon - Mostly American Cichlids
135 Gallon - Angelfish Community
75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank
20 Gallon Long - QT
10 Gallon - Empty
