It can be trimmed a couple of ways, one - cut off the top portions and replant or disgard. Two - take the bunch of plants out and cut the bottom section (roots and all) off and disgard. It should establish roots in no time. Remember this can grow up to about 1' 8" and depending on your aquarium size, you could be trimming quite often.
