Bio-Chem Zorb question

I keep reading that you shouldn't use carbon in the filter in a planted tank. Is that true of Bio-Chem Zorb from RENA? I assume it is....just wanted to make sure before I remove it. I currently have roughly 8 or 9 plants in a 26 gallon bowfront. Is that enough plants to nullify the need for Bio-Chem Zorb? Am I removing nutrients that should be left in the tank for the plants? Thanks for any help that you can provide

Nevermind...I did what I should have done the first time and searched previous threads. I need to remove the pouch.

I used this for about a week after first setting up my 115g tank with the Rena Filstar XP3 canister. Then I took it out. I don't know that it would remove all that much in the way of nutrients, but it would remove useful stuff like DOC (dissolved organic carbon) which is an essential plant nutrient and CO2 is often in low supply to begin with.
