Best plant for low lighting

I have a 55 gallon I am setting up for my Jack Dempseys and I definitely want to add some live, tall plants toward the back of the aquarium. ( I will put driftwood in front of the base of the plant so they cannot dig them up) And I really don't want to upgrade to more powerful lights. (standard right now)

What do you all think would be the best plant for my tank?

I have a 55 gal. with low light and have Cyrpt, java ferns, java moss over driftwood, val, and some type of sword plant. I have to put a plant tablet under my Sword plant every few months as these like Iron. There is a tread if you search here on a whole list of low light plants that will do well also.i

For sturdy plants I would suggest swords like Echinodorus bleherae. [The shaded name means we have a profile on the plant/fish, click on the name to see the plant info.] Crypts are fore-ground/mid-ground and probably too delicate for this setup. Java Fern or Anubias attached to the wood (it grows on wood or rock, not in the substrate) would be better and also provide some mid-ground fill.

Stay away from stem plants as they will always be coming up, they are delicate and break easily in such conditions.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business.
