If you mean the green "lucky" bamboo that is grown in various shapes, it's not too bad. Harder than you might think, but I cut the green stems with bypass garden pruners, depending on the diameter. If the pruners have a hooked blade setup, it's easier. Don't recommend using the anvil-type pruners. The brown, dried stuff - it's hard to cut! I have to use a small set of loppers for that sometimes. A small hand saw also works and I've even used my miter saw on occasion.
I use them in aquariums.. You can just buy the small ones in vases at wal-mart rather than cutting them. sometimes if you cut the stem the plant will die..
