Excel is a great way to start controlling it. Just don't overdo it. You can safely dose up to 2x with no problems for the fish. But if you have plants that don't like Excel, then I wouldn't use it. The plants that don't like Excel are most vals and anacharis.

The other way to control it is to inject CO2, or up the CO2 if you already do. My CO2 goal levels are 35ppm-50ppm in all my CO2 injected tanks.

Even though it is the same planet, underwater is a whole different world.
