the tank demensions 12 3/4 4ft 1/4. it has 2 hoods not a single one. the bulbs are 18" each. i really dont want to get another hood being that its going to be hard to find a hood. so far the plants are doing okay but time will tell. i'll have to see what i can do.
If you're on a budget you could do what I did. Go to home depot and buy a 4 ft light fixture (most will be T12 in size) then just buy some correct bulbs to fit it. For my 29 gallon I got a double strip 3' one that will hold 2 30 watt bulbs. I then just bought the correct bulbs and man does that thing shine! If your top is glass you can just take the part that holds the bulbs off, but if not you'll need to buy a glass top. Then just hang the fixture above the tank and you're done. Even if you need to buy all new stuff it is still cheaper than buying the actual thing and works just as well. You can always check craigslist as well.
20 gallon long: 3 adult Neolamprologus similis + about 11 fry of various ages; low light planted tank
20 gallon long:2 freshwater dwarf puffers (Puff Puff and Poofer); medium-light planted tank
10 gallon: 1 male betta named Wormy; low light planted tank
10 gallon: 1 male betta named Dante; low light planted tank
2, 5.5 gallon tanks that are currently empty (I see more fish on the horizon )
so far so go nothing is my cambodas are growing up so that must be a good sign and everything else is still looking green. they are even doing okay as i am treating for ich with salt so my fingers are crossed everything will turn out. i have no were to hang lighting from in my suite though thanks for the ideas i'll keep them in mind :)
