Ouch, that sucks. I'm getting ready to leave on a week long business trip, leaving the wife in charge of the three tanks. She's pretty used to the planted ones, haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood), but this will be her first time sitting the reef tank which has a bit more daily involvement (topping off, checking skimmer).

Hope you get it cleaned up, nothing a good water change and some TLC can't cure.

I did a water change today and I noticed that the water smelled like the beach or the river. Is that normal???

Yes--provided it is not a polluted beach or river. I think I would usually liken my tanks to a wet forest, probably much the same.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

Currently I live on a lake. My tanks all smell much the same as the lake, only you cant notice the smell unless you get your hands in the water and smell them. The lake smells from 100 feet away, so I'll mark that one up as a win I remember reading in a book somewhere that a "pond" odor in moderation is a healthy sign.

Oh, well that's even better news.

Lightbulb Mid-ground and fore-ground plants?

This weekend( forsure lol) I'm going to my lfs, and I need some help to find mid- ground and fore ground plants. I'm thinking maybe some rotala for the mid-ground right corner and just keeping it trimmed down. As for other plants I'm unsure.
