3100k light

I bought a 6500k bulb over a year ago. Recently my plants started choking. I remembered the 1 year rule and went to Lowes to buy another. I saw a bulb labeled Aquarium and Plants rated at 3100k. I grabbed it and headed for the register. Then I remembered a lot of threads recommending 6500k and I remembered how well my plants had done and how every 3-5 weeks I had to cut out 1/2 of my plants so I put it back and got the 6500k.
Has anyone ever used the 3100k A&P bulb and how well does it work?

Consider the needs of your fish before acting on your desires.

Have never used it but have been tempted several times just too see how it does. If it does work or not cause I have always read you need to be in the range of 5000-7000k for aquarium plants. So I have always been kinda scared to try it. LoL

I heard the 3100k bulbs were yellow when I read reviews online that people wrote and I heard people didn't like them... Im not sure I wish they had a spectral graph of them on the boxes..

Just remember is isn't the K that really does anything.. Its the spectral light it puts out.. I have seen 6500k bulbs that don't have many reds in them, mostly just blue and green and a few red on the 600nm scale..

You want reds in the 600-700 range. 650 is best.. That's why pink bulbs are the better bulb to get vs a 6500k light.. Pink bulbs are usually 5,000-5500.. Or like the colormax which have no rating but are supposedly really high like 15,000k.. Colormax bulbs from aqueon are actually surprisingly really good for plants if you look at the spectral graphs
