20 gallon high, low tech planted setup.
hi, i have a 20 gallon high setup it has been running for about a year and i have some plants which are not doing to good, probable because our windown was open and the water cooled down alot, the plant never really grew extremly well and i was wanting to re-do the setup, i have a corallife fixture that can hold two bulbs but only has one 65 watt 21 inch bulb, i was wondering what i could do to get better plants, i have black flouvirite sand, and i was wanting to know if i should change is to some sort of gravel for better results? any suggestions and id also want to know if i should get a second 65 watt bulb for my plants? i have a eheim external cannister for 30 gallons im pretty sure, with the flow bar. and there just a few guppies in there rn but im gonna change the stock afterwards.i was just looking for some help, for all the criteria needed to grow a nice lush envirenment. thanks for the help.
fish tanks are my tv.........
i need more tvs
Some pretty good plants to get are java ferns, anubias, crypts, moss, liverworts, vals, hygrophilas, ludwiguas, bacopas, and sags.. These are pretty good for beginners and your setup. Make sure to dose fertilizers such as flourish comprehensive (or dry ferts if you can find a similar fert ratio formula to mix) once or twice a week, 6-7 hours of light, and you're good to go.

If your lights are 65w flourescent IMHO a single tube is all you need. If that is the equalivant incandescent watts then use tubes that will give you a total of 30-40 watts. also 6500k.
best tank ever.
maintain Fw and marine system with a strong emphasis on balanced, stabilized system that as much as possible are self substaning.
have maintained FW systems for up to 9 years with descendants from original fish and marine aquariums for up to 8 years.
With no water changes, untreated tap water, inexpensive lighting by first starting the tank with live plants (FW) or macro algae( marine)
