2-3 inch fibrous growths

I have a 29 gal with 5 dension barbs, 1 blue gour, 2 zebra danios, 1 albino pleco, and 2 cory cats. Other items in tank are a large piece of drift wood and a few plants of bambo, grass, and some tall small leafy plant. The tank is 9 months old, water changes every 1-2 weeks. Ph about 7.2, mod water harness and all other levels stable. No other issues. But about a few weeks ago i found these fibrous stalks some by them selves, some in a cluster of 4-6. I removed them by hand and they stay complete out of water when dry. almost off white in color and a bit light tan when removed and dried.

I will try to incorporate a photo later today.

Is it algae?
A plant?
or a mineral build up such a a crytal growth or something?

there are only one or two of these ever couple of days so they are not over taking anything at the moment.

PS this tank is being moved to a 55 very soon.

Growth of one of the fibers after a few days

it has doubled in size......this one is in a quiet corner so it was undisturbed ......the others have moved around the tank from fish movement.

Could it be plant roots? Have you tried digging under the gravel?

they just pull out with a tappered end with no real root. maybe if itis a plant the roots might develop later.....but they uusually get disturbed by the fish before they develop further

that sounds like 1 vote for a plant

i was growing a small grass 6months ago that have died and are long gone.
the fibers have a more firm feel then grass
