Subject: Larry LaPrise dead at 93

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.

Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

Check the profile, Pterophyllum scalare, under compatibility is mentions some suitable tankmates (as well as some not suitable).

I would not recommend this combo. While on the face of it, one might think this a good match because both species occur in somewhat similar habitats (quiet, dark), both are somewhat shy, and certainly sedate...the Ctenopoma is very shy, and the angels would easily dominate it.

A tank with angelfish is best when the group of angels are "the" fish, with tankmates being supportive rather than opposing, if you follow that.

i kind of like them, the only problem is that they are a little big. How many do you think i could add to my stocking list? 15 marble hatchetfish, 8 altum angelfish, 20 pepper corrys, and 10 congo tetras?

I also forgot to mention otos, will they just be eaten by the angelfish? they seem fast enough to not be eaten, and they always hide.

Eight altums seems a lot...they get larger (7 inches length). In a 55g I would suggest 5-6. The other numbers are OK.

You are aware of the altums being wild caught (unless you have a local breeder) and needing specific water?

yes, i understand that they need specific water parameters. Although i will try to find a local breeder, which should be easy in Miami, because it seems to be the center for aquariums. I will probably use half RO/DI water, half tap, and use buffers to get it to where i want it.

Not sure if you meant to say 55g, but the tank that i want am planning on getting is 120g, which is double, and double of 5-6 is 10-12. I know thats not how it works, but i thought 8 would be a good amount? just asking for some clarification :)

THANKS! This forum is so much help, i have no clue what i would do without you guys!
