i think that if it were algea it would grow first on your glass; as ive had problems with growths on my substrate and they were due to overfeeding, could be a bad bacteria or fungus. i would and i have use the fish net to scrape off the surface if you have substrate to spare dispose of it.

i agree with catfishtabbi. Normally algae grows faster on glass since there's more surface area exposed to the light. I would just scoop it out with a net and rinse it under hot water and scrub if necessary.
