A little background first. I wrecked my truck back in February and injured my knee (to the point of needing surgery, which is scheduled for this coming Friday). So for the last 2 months I have not been able to climb a ladder to do cleaning on my 125 gal in wall look through tank. It's access is 6' up. It has sun exposure, so it has horrendous algae, both on the glass and on the decor (green on glass, bba on decor). Right now it houses my Mpimbwe Frontosa. I have arranged to have them moved to my lower in wall 125 so that I can better care for them. I do not want to move them until I have stock for the top tank so I do not lose the cycle and end up with an empty tank that is the first thing you see when entering my home. I also do not want an algae ridden tank to be the first thing you see either. So, I have been kicking around what to do. I have to have this tank be very low maintenance, lightly stocked, and look nice....as I can not climb a ladder for at least a month or two after my knee surgery. My husband has agreed to stick the end of the python into the tank for me to do water changes, but he is not a fish person and will not scrape walls or do tank maintenance himself. Not to mention he often is working out of town
This is what I have planned so far....any additions, subtractions, or change suggestions are welcome with the exception that the BN will be going into that tank.
I have an L144 male (about 3 years old) and a long fin white tip male bristle nose that I plan on moving into there. I also have 5-6 assorted Anubias to put in there. The substrate is 100 lbs of play sand. The tank has been up for 2 years. Fluval 405 filter. Lighting low light and is outdated but will not be changed (except the bulbs as needed) as it is built into the wall (about 1 - 2 wpg).
My Micro Plan:
15 Blue Tetra (REALLY like these)
20 Redline Rasbora
20 Espie Rasbora
6 Amano Shrimp (for the BBA)
2-3 Nerites (for the green algae on glass)
3-4 Bridgesii (I know they don't do much for algae - but I love them)
6 assorted sizes of driftwood
Crypt Wendtii Green & Bronze
Amazon Sword or two
Okay this is where I am at thus far but really am open to about anything compatible or do you think it is stocked. I want this to be an active tank.
Keep in mind that I need the inhabitants to help with the algae problem and/or be compatible with the bristlenose that will be in there and the blue tetra that I have fallen in love with.
Thank you for your help and suggestions.
