White worm looking things...

I noticed today in one of my betta tanks that is planted with Wisteria there are these little white worm things and I have now idea what they are or were the came from. I tried to get a picture but they are to small to show up. They were not there before I put the plants in so I am wondering if it is something that came from them. The Betta (Hershey) acts fine and does not have any on him but its kind of freaking me out. I took out the plants and am going to completely clean the tank (its only 2.5 gallons) to make sure its not something that will hurt him. Unless you guys can give me an idea of what these things are and if they are safe or not. I thought they were roots from the plants but then I saw them swimming. There is also a white film on the sides of the tank if that helps at all. This tank is the only one that I do not have a filter on but will buy one today. I have just been doing the water changes to keep the water clean.

Kindest Regards,
Amanda

They could be planaria worms, which are harmless. Usually these appear if there tends to be uneaten food left in the substrate and lack of cleaning. You are on the right track to perform water changes, and make sure the bottom gets a decent cleaning too.

How often do you perform water changes?

2 times a week. I have had the tank for several months now and never seen these little guys until today. I just put the plants in there about 2 weeks ago thats why I was thinking they may have come from them. I went ahead and took all the water out and rinsed the gravel I was worried it could be something to hurt my betta.

Kindest Regards,
Amanda
