White things that look like snails appeared in my tank

So today I noticed these 4 white slimy things moving along the walls of my tank. Upon closer look I see that they are snails?! How can snails materialize out of nowhere in my tank? I didn't have snails prior to this and I didn't buy any so they literally formed out of nothing.

Does anyone know how this could happen? Is this a sign of bad things to come? Here is a pic of the snail:

Yes, that's a snail. Have you added any live plants? They are often found to hitchhike on plants and get accidentally introduced. They aren't bad. Just control your food supply as abundant food supply is often the main cause for population explosion.

Yeah I have a quite a bit of live plants (java moss, anacharis, java fern, crypt). I guess they must have hitchiked with the anacharis since I added them about 2 weeks ago.

Do you know how big these type of snails will get? If they are going to get pretty huge I might just have to remove them.

Your snails are common pond snails. They shouldn't exceed 2 cm at most. I'd remove the ones visible right now before they might overrun the tank. As these snails happen to be the most prolific, it is not surprising to see hundreds of egg masses stuck on plants, glass, rocks and substrate.
