White cotton looking growth

Ive got a breeding tank set up with fry in it, and recently i noticed the sides of the tank were beginning to get white, whispy hairs over it. My guess is ist some sort of fungus, but im not sure, ive NEVER had issues with any of my tanks other than algae. does anyone have any idea what this could be. i did a 60% WC and noticed that the knob to the heater was almost encased in this stuff. i tried to take pics of it to post but you cant see it in the pics. I tried cleaning the inside of the tank with a scrub brush without disturbing the fry too much and noticed that the insides of the tank seemed slimy! any thoughts on what is and a possible treatment would be helpfull

is it white white, or greyish?

a picture would be really handy. What kind of lights? what kind of filter? do you have a test kit you could provide us results with?

Likely some sort of fungus. There are many different types, some harmless, some very toxic. Some of us have had fungus come out of wood, and I have seen fungus form on bits of uneaten food. A photo really would help; someone might see something in it.
