When to put plants in [fishless/ammonia] cycling tank

Hi guys,

When is the best time to place plants into a cycling tank? I understand plants provide nitrifying bacteria, but they also suck up ammonia, potentially making the cycle last longer than it would without a plant.

I would probably use anacharis or java moss, nice hardy plants. A few drops of pure ammonia (surfectant and fragrance free) wouldn't harm the plants? How would you guys do it?

I would use plants right now, it shouldn't hurt and should keep the nitrates down far enough that a normal water change is all you should need at the end. Remember to test regularly so you can see the bateria grow and and you also keep track of the ammonia and nitrites during the cycle. Your nitrates may not show up depending on how much ammonia you are adding and how many plants you add.
