It looks like typical behavior of a Pimelodus Pictus. That's exactly the way mine behaved when he was a youngster. As they get older they become less active, and become more nocturnal in nature. Mine hangs out in his driftwood cave all day long but comes out at night to feed. I miss his active crazy swimming days! His tight circles are most likely due to the shape of your tank. What size hex is this?
How long have you had him and how long has your tank been set up??

Its a 46 Bow front and its been set up for a few days now. I thought there might be something wrong with him but I guess not. Thanks for the quick reply!

Don't worry...none of my fish act the same way as they did when I first got them. My yo-yo loaches still do that, but are way more calm that when I got them. The others were nippers and then I added other fish and they stopped nipping. They'll all settle down into their individual behaviors and routines, don't worry.
