Post What test kit do you use?

I need a new test kit as mine didn't survive the military movers....I used to always have JBL and was pretty happy with it.

So what do you guys suggest, what do you use?

Anyone experiences with these API Master kits they wanna share with me?

The API Master kit is the only one I have tried and use.
I feel it is simple and accurate. One thing I do not like about it, is the high end nitrates, all the colors look the same to me. It can be difficult to determine how much water to change out after a fishless cycle, but maybe the other nitrate test kits are the same way?

I use the API Freshwater test kit. I have also used the Tetratest Laborett test in the past and it was ok but does not include a test for nitrate. However, it does include Gh and Kh. I prefer the API but like Twistersmom says if your nitrates are high it's a bit tricky to tell which one. My nitrates are always below 20 so I have no problem with it.

API Master Test Kit....................Seems to be the favorite in the hobby and i never questioned any results i got from it...........I agree, the nitrate colors are a little to close for testing, if it goes to the higher range............For me, anything above 20 and i do a water change right away............

Hey awesome seems my preliminary choice of buying the API wasn't a bad one then, off to the store we go here

As for the Tetra, I once had a sample and tested with it, I REALLY didn't like it and personally felt some readings where not accurate neither

Thanks everybody!!!

API is solid and I use it with no qualms. Like most others I have to agree that the nitrate test is unreliable and hard to read.

I have the same master kit and its been great. You get so many uses out of it. One thing though, I bought mine from the petco website with coupon codes and a few other items I needed. It came out much cheaper then going to petco and buying it.

Which is exactly why I have just given up and no longer test for nitrate
(I w/c 40% every single week, tanks are planted.)

I hear y'all about the nitrate, but like my past tanks, I think once the new once are established and running for a while, I'll stop testing for it anyway. Knocking on wood so far I never had a single nitrate issue in any tanks after havin been cycled properly. This may be because I always have a lot of plants or the weekly water exchanges, I donno...
For starters right now I'm just SUPERST curious to find out what the tap water I'm gonna use will be as far as kh, ph so I can start dreaming which fish I wanna have
