yeah, I just googled bugs in the aquarium and thought it looked like it could have grown into a damselfly. or something similar.

I guess a bug of some sort somehow got in your house and into your tank and dropped a little baby bug. Wild stuff, brother. Wild stuff.

Ok, so it was definitely a damsel fly larvae. I have just seen a video on youtube of a bigger one and it was almost identical! problem solved.

Lets hope it was a one off, at least it had been sucked into the filter.

Apologies if I disgusted of offended anyone with my dirty filter pads, thought this was normal, and they are changed regularly. what the hell is causing all the dirt who knows? seems no one has ever seen such dirty filter pads. I thought that was the point of filter pads, to filter out dirt from the water.

Anyway, thanks for all the responses people. can always count on you guys for info!

cheers
simon

it's hiked from the lfs then i guess.
i keep a close on my toadlets tank because i did bring a bit of
weed in for the tads to munch on the bits and bobs,so if i find one
i might hatch it out lol might as well everything else is hatching in my house

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

you could have a point there, I'm still fairly new to this and don't really know how much to feed them. I kind of mix it up a bit, frozen daphnia every day, and then one tablet that I split into two for the loaches and corys, although everyone gets in on the action!! I thaw the daphnia out first in tank water then throw it in, so some of it gets drawn into the filter before its eaten. the tablets also kick up a huge cloud of something, powder/particles.

I also have flakes but rarely give them those.

Peace always..

hmmm,mine get flake,pellets every day,then live/frozen couple of times a month,
cucumber i used to put in when i had loaches, they loved it
had to take it out after 24hrs as it made the tank all cloudy,

You know, it is interesting how things change as we learn more. For many decades we were taught to clean the filters, have sparkling water, vacuum every particle out of the substrate, use carbon and various chemicals to maintain water so clean you could almost drink it... now we know this is going in the wrong direction. "Dirt" is actually healthier, up to a point of course. The multitude of bacteria living in the substrate and filter are there for a reason.
