what sort of salt?

In a freshwater tank that has a guppy with a sore tail I want to add a bit of salt, does it have to be aquarium salt or would a bit of table salt be OK as a temporary measure while his tail heals?

If you look at the table salt package it will most likely say it has iodine in it which is why we don't use table salt in aquatics. If you can use something labeled for aquatic use, if not find a salt where the only ingredients are just salt (NaCl) I believe ice cream salt is one of these products.
