What is this piece of glass?

I have an 11x14 pane of glass that came with my 30 gallon tank, what is it? I was thinking a brace but it is too short to sit on the lip of the frame and would take a ton of silicon to get it to touch both sides. Any ideas? I know it was once inside the tank because it has the same gunk on it that the tank walls did.

30 gallon:
6 Harlequin Rasbora
2 Bolivian Rams (1M/1F)
4 Corydoras Melanistius
2 Peppered Cory
1 Sunburst Platy (M)
1 Guppy (M)

Thought about that too, but the tank dimensions are 36 1/4 x 12 5/8 x 16 3/4 so there would still be a sizable gap around it for fish to get by.

I think I know what its for. I'm pretty sure that sometimes companies provide a completely useless, random piece of unrelated whatever to totally confuse a consumer. Its like that extra screw you never figure out how to use when you assemble your entertainment center. Its sole purpose is just to make you feel a little extra crazy.

Okay, okay. I'm kidding... sort of.

Is it for cutting and building one of those in-tank boxes that marine aquariums have for something-or-other-that-I'm-completely-ignorant-about-because-I-know-nothing-about-saltwater-tanks?

I don't know, but I love a mystery!

Haha, I dont know Mina. LIke I said it has been used in the tank as it has the same gunk on it that the tank itself had. This tank was given to me by my uncle after it had been sitting unused for years. I may have to try and get in touch with him and see if he remembers.
