What fish would you add?

Hi I have a new (2 month) 65 gallon half-planted tank. (You can see pics posted on the pic board). I have a river rock terrain on the left and planted terrain on the right. It is filtered with a Penguin 125 biowheel and Aquaclear 50 hob filter. The substrate is river rock (in built-up caves) and crushed gravel and river rock. My Ph is 7.2, but it runs high, I have to lower it. Softwater with gh about 3 degrees and kh about 11 degrees. All n's and am are zero.

I have 18 neons, a golden chinese algae eater, a green chinese algae eater, an oto and a cory.

What would you add?

I was thinking of a surface/mid dweller such as flame guppies or blue tux guppies, but I was told that guppies carry diseases. I was thinking of lower dwellers, like dwarf angels (so they don't eat the neons).

What would YOU add?

Kuhlii loaches (6) They would love the rockwork and help keep bottom clean. Have kept them on sand and pea gravel and they seem to have little trouble with either.

to keep that little guy company, and get some rummy nosed tetra.

Yeah, I had two albino cories with him, but neither made it. I think the ph was too high at the time. Are they less hardy than other cories? I think I need to shoal that guy.

Why would you return the AE? They are pretty cool, the way they stake out their caves and defend them.

You're right: Kuhlii loaches would love the rock work. I'd have trouble getting used to them, though. That's just me. They are an aquired taste.

Thanks for your ideas. Interesting to see what other people envision in a tank.

A CAE's amusing defense will eventually turn into a nasty offense as they mature. They become quite aggressive as they get older, to the point of killing other fish in the tank. They're not what I'd keep if I was looking to enjoy a peaceful community.
If it was me (and it's not!) I'd add more cories so as to have a shoal. Otos aren't solo by nature and enjoy the company of other in order to thrive. I'd add at least two more otos, if not more.

yeah, nasty as they get older, tend to shoot around the tank, not caring
who they crash into along the way(can you tell i kept a couple)i don't like
them at all, also i think, and i could be wrong here, they can suck the slime coat
from the other fish too.

Wehave a variety of tetras in one of the 55's....rummy nosed among them....i think willow's is a good suggestion, the rummy nosed are really neat looking. we also have cory's in w/them...I want to say they're pygmies but not entirely sure (still learning).... FP could say for certain what they are, overall everyone seems to co-habitate well.

THANKS for your thoughts and expertise! Will cories shoal with other species? I have a leopard cory, will he shoal with, say, skunk cories?

I did not know that the CAE aggression will escalate: that's not something I'd like to see. I don't have a big enough tank for a couple of bullies. Should I get 2 otos to make a trio?
