Hello, you can check out the profile for Rosy Barb by clicking on the shaded name. You can also look in there for other fish to see if they'll fit.

Take note of temperature, the Rosy Barb likes colder water than a alot of tropical fish so keep that in mind.

Small danio's,Whitecloud minnow's,corydora's could work.
White cloud's and danio's would be able to compete with the barb's who are equally as quick to snatch food's, and cory's,, ,maybe five or six,,could police the bottom .
Glow light tetra's,silver tipped tetra's,blood fin's,pristella's, are a few other's who would appreciate cool 75 to 76 degree's F and are adaptable in my view/expierience, to wide range of water conditon's (ie) GH,KH,pH.

That's a bit high isn't it for them?

I thought mid to high 60's would be better.

I can't keep fish like that, as I don't keep my house that cold 3 of the 4 seasons of the year. Tanks are always a couple degrees warmer than the room.

Have never kept any tropical's cooler than 73 degree's F with exception of some pleco species.
Tropical's sometimes also have rather high metabolisim's, and water that is too cool can slow down their ability to process /digest food's, leading to bloat, constipation.
Cooler temp's can also result in sluggish activity level's for otherwise active fishes such as those mentioned.
I try to keep fishes somewhere in midlle range of temperature, and water parameter's (ie) pH,gh,kh.
White cloud's are the only ones mentioned that do fairly poorly,(short lived) at temp's much above 75 degree's F in my expieriences with them.

Our profile gives 23C/74F as the upper limit on temperature for this species, and as most here know, I always suggest staying below a fish's upper limit. I would say 70-72F would be better. And that does limit tankmates.

But before considering these, I don't think there is sufficient space in a 29g for another upper level species. This barb attains 3 inches and several sources say up to 6 inches, and it needs space, and should be in a group of no less than 6, maybe 5 at absolute minimum. Other upper fish will not work here. Some substrate fish would be OK, keeping in mind the cooler temp.

BTW, I see I must revise this profile, the fish is no longer in Puntius but this year was moved into the genus Pethia in a major study on the Indian subcontinent "Puntius" species carried out by Pethiyagoda, Meegaskumbura, and Maduwage. Will try to get this done today. Not that this matters to the issue, but...

Byron.
