What is fair price for set up 43 gallon?

Hey guys!

I'm getting into saltwater and corals, so have decided to look at selling my freshwater tank, with sand bottom, live plants and the following fish. One dwarf neon rainbow, 1 beautiful 3" blue gourami, 5 loaches, a number of black and green/red tetras and a nice big Ram. I'm going to try to sell the Angelicus loaches separately, because I feel they need a larger tank. Nice stand is included with heater, lots of malaysian driftwood and aquaclear 70.

What do you think is a fair/good price to offer it on Craigslist?

I think the difficult part will be to find someone that will wants to buy your fish. You maybe stuck selling them a LFS or just giving them away. If someone was setting up a tank and looking to buy your setup, I think they would already have fish in mind.

I would post the retail price and then ask for 75% and say negotiable. I think getting ~50% would be a successful sale. In my area, there are tons of aquariums that are posted every week. Flooded market

+1

I don't see many people wanting the fish with the tank either. Most have everything planned out (aquascape and fish) before they start shopping. Personally when I browse for tanks on craigslist I always pass over any that say "comes with fish". Yet if they want the tank for freshwater you still might be able to sell the plants with it.

I would look to re-home the fish or sell/give them to a LFS. I had to get rid of a few some while back due to compatibility issues, I just donated them to my LFS.

Good luck!

You both are right. I just hate giving them to the fishstore, because I don't know what kind of home they'll get. At least I can make an attempt to screen someone :)

I'll try placing fish as people want them on CL and maybe they'll want plants too. Then see if someone wants the tank/stand and filter with heater. I spent many, many hours washing playsand, I hope someone would want a nice sand bottom :)
