What does Algae look like in very early stages?

OK so I've been up and running for about 2 months with my 55G fresh. It cycled in about 6 weeks and always has been crystal clear albeit crowded. All tests are fine and fish are happy, etc.

Now I'm getting blotches on the inside of the glass that just look like, well, blotches, of clear gunk. Sort of like dust looks in sunlight on a glass table. It's not green which is throwing me off. But is this just algae that is getting started and hasn't turned green yet? Is algae always green???

Thanks! :D

No, there are various kinds of algae... It could be brown algae (it actually looks red to me)...

Try scraping it off and see what happens...

I'm glad you wrote this, I've gotten the same thing in the last few days. I assumed it was algae because its slimey feeling and I've got hair algae forming on my plants already.
