Tank/Filter/Heater/Thermometer/Ammonia Alert is a good thing to have on hand, if you don't keep the QT intact all the time.

Plastic PVC piping is often recommended since it can be bleached and disinfected, or you can go for cheap clay pots if you can be sure they aren't contaminated.

Alot of substrate and real plants are not recommended at all.

My QT bins are a Rubbermaid with a bubbler filter, with some polished stones, a clay pot, and a spare fake plant if I have any not being used.
Search for Penn-Plex filter on petco.com if you need a very cheap and functioning alternative. (Turn it on it's side so that the bubbles are forced through the front of the filter, instead of floating back up to the top.
