If you want an air-pump, just place it on a sock so it wont move around. If the sides touch anything, it will make that awful noise. Hope this helps!

The quietest air pump is surely the Rena. In particular, models with potentiometric adjustment.
This device reduces, in fact, the amplitude of movements of the swing arm.
Additionally, if you choose a pump more powerful than necessary, you can make it work at low rpm, further reducing the noise.

I buy mine 2nd hand, renas are nice. I normally get the smaller ones and hang them in the air by the cord then like wrap tape around them in some weird way. Mine is very quite like this.
