Water Pump Impeller Problems

I hope i'm posting this in the right place, but I recently replaced one of the two water pumps on my 75 gallon fish tank. One of the pumps has always been working but the other one has been broken for about 5 years or so and I recently got to changing it. I found a "new" power head (penguin 660, 170 GPH), this pump has been sitting under our tank for probably 15 years now according to the receipt. It was working fine for about a week but now it stops after running for about 5 minutes. I can get it working again by opening up the pump and messing with the impeller. But like i said, the fix only lasts for about 5 minutes. Does anyone know why the impeller stops? I have a very similar problem with my pond pump, but that's another story.

Thanks
